Dr Michalski has been a consultant Oncologist at GOSH since 1993. He trained at Birmingham University Medical School and his postgraduate education involved posts in the Midlands, at Guy’s Hospital London, GOS and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

An interest in the molecular basis of childhood malignancy led him into laboratory research and he was awarded a PhD by UCL for his work at the Molecular Oncology Labs at ICH. Six months in the USA provided further training in neuro-oncology.

His interests are solid tumours with a particular emphasis on neuro-oncology. He is chair of the NCRI Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Central Nervous System Subgroup and is national chief investigator for a study of risk-adapted therapy for children with medulloblastoma. He contributes to the development of national and international protocols for children with brain tumours.

At GOS/ICH he is a co-investigator on studies developing novel tumour vaccines. Optimising the delivery of high quality care is a key interest and he contributed to the national guidance development for NICE and the Safe and Sustainable initiatives. He is married with three daughters and plays a number of sports badly.
